Bridal Shower Games for the more Sophisticated Bride

Bring the Special Ladies in your Life Together Without a Town Centre Pub Crawl, Bridal Shower Games means you can stay at home and have a hoot with your friends.

As an interactive DJ and entertainer I love games. They break the ice, bring people together and liven up any party. In this post I will give you some tips for the best games to play at your bridal shower.

A bridal shower is a more sophisticated alternative to a hen do although nothing is stopping a bride having both. Traditionally it has been an American tradition however like many other parts of American culture we are seeing it more and more over here. Bridal showers are usually done in the house with female friends and family invited. Some brides prefer this option because they can invite older family members that do not want a crazy night out frequenting the local high street nightclubs.

But just because you decide to make the party indoors it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! The games I will suggest will get you and your girl friends in fits of laughter and also give you the chance to bond, prior to the big day. Don’t forget to enlist the help of your maid of honor for hostess duties.

Bridal Shower Game 1; Name Tag
You will probably end up with a room full of people who don’t know each other so Name Tag is a good game to start with. The hostess needs to write down everyone’s name alongside wedding related words such as veil, favors, groom etc… Each guest pins the tag in a visible place on their person. They proceed to mingle with each other and discuss weddings. The catch is that they are not allowed to say the wedding related word on the tag. The object of the game is to try to “encourage” others to say their forbidden word. If they do they have to give their name tag to the person who successfully got them to say it. The winner at the end of the game is the one with the most name tags. Players can of course count their own if they have managed to keep it! A good tip for this game is to set a reasonable time limit – I would suggest no more than 10 minutes.

Bridal Shower Game 2; The Handbag Game
The hostess prepares for this game by drawing up a list of items likely to be found in a woman’s handbag. Each item has a point value assigned to it. For example a lipstick could be 1 point and mascara 2. The more unusual the item is the more points it gets. 10 bonus points should be allowed for the woman that has the most outrageous item! The woman who gets the most points wins. A slight variation of the game includes the hostess calling out the objects and the points being allocated to the woman who can find the item quickest.

Bridal Shower Game 3; The Famous Couple Game
The hostess needs to prepare for this game by making a list of famous television couples; they can be real or fictional. The hostess reads out the first names and the players have to answer with the surname. An alternative is to say the name of one of the people in the couple and the players have to know their partner.

Bridal Shower Game 4: Bingo
This game is just like regular bingo but with a bridal shower twist. Instead of numbers the bingo cards should have wedding related words or pictures.

Bridal Shower Game 5; The Who Am I Game
This is another game where guests have the opportunity to interact with each other. The host prepares by printing out pictures of characters from romantic books or movies and tapes one character to different hats (the more novelty the hats are the better.) Be careful when giving out the hats so that the players cannot see their own name. The players then mingle and ask questions trying to discover their own identity. Other players can only answer yes and no in reply.

Bridal Shower Game 6: The Wedding Jumble
For this game the hostess will prepare a list of words related to a wedding day such as toast, limousine, receptions, and vows. The hostess has to scramble the letters to make an anagram of each word. The guests are provided with a copy of the scrambled words and have a set amount of time to unscramble them.

Bridal Shower Game 7: The Wedding Day Obstacle Course
The hostess sets up a series of challenges such as wrapping a wedding favor, addressing envelopes, filling out a place card or assembling a centerpiece. This is quite a clever game to play because it actually enables the bride to enlist the help of her bridal shower guests to do some practical jobs needed for the wedding. You may choose to award the winner badge to the player who is the quickest but in this particular game I would instead encourage quality so decide the winner based who does the best job. This will encourage your players to put the effort in. Be careful if people have already had a few drinks, you don’t want any arguments over spoiled expensive resources. Pick the tasks carefully!

Bridal Shower Game 8; The Bridal Shower Memory Game
Get a tray and filled with various wedding items, allow your guests a little time to study it. Take it away and then remove one or two if the items the guests have to work out which is missing as quickly as possible.

Bridal Shower Game 9: The Price is Right Game:
You can do this game with wedding items to make it especially suitable for a bridal shower. Provide 10 items that have already been bought for the wedding. Guests have to guess the price. The closest guessers win.

These games will provide fun and laughter for your bridal shower. They will encourage the guests to mingle and provide ice breaking opportunities. When it comes to the big day the special ladies in your life will have already met in a relaxed environment and will be happy to see each other again, adding the overall atmosphere of the wedding. If you still want a night on the town then there is nothing to stop you doing both, after all you don’t plan on getting married again so why not make the most of all party opportunities! You could even use the bridal shower as a warm up so those that don’t want to party till the early hours can take a rain-check and those that do can head into town after the games are over and the buffet has been consumed.

When it comes to entertaining party guests I know my stuff. If all this talk of games has made you think about games you might like to be played on your big day then drop me a line or give me a call for a no obligation chat.
